Folio 188. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission, to Charles Bond, Clerk to the Guardians of the Axminster Poor Law Union, acknowledging his letter of 9 August stating the relief granted to able bodied paupers had not conformed to the Outdoor Labour Test Order. They refer him to their letter of 10 July stating they will only sanction the cases as far as they conformed to this order. While they will sanction the relief given they will not sanction further out relief unless in accordance with the order or where one or more of the children of large families can be taken into the workhouse. Paper Number: 13184/A/1847. Poor Law Union Number 76. Counties: Devon and Dorset.
