Description
Content
Folio 413. Letter from Thomas Watkins, Clerk to the Guardians of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, to Poor Law Board, replying to their letter requesting to be informed what steps the guardians are taking in respect to the deficiency in the accounts of Mr Pride, late Collector for the parish of Landaff [Llandaff]. The overseers appeared before the board of guardians 12 January 1850 and stated that to date Mr Pride was in default of the sum of £106 12s and they were ascertaining whether all the rates received by Mr Pride have been entered in his accounts. Meantime the clerk has been directed to write to the collector calling upon him to pay the balance due within one week. In the event that this does not occur, application will be made to his sureties to the same effect. Annotated: John Pride appointed Collector for the Landaff [Llandaff] parish, 9 March 1844, under order of the Poor Law Commission, dated 12 November 1838. The order does not authorise his suspension by the guardians. 1. Acknowledge and request to know the result of their application to the collector. 2. Write to Mr Pride for explanation. 3. Write to the auditor and request a report after the conclusion of the adjourned audit. Paper Number: 2188/1850. Poor Law Union Number 613. Counties: Glamorganshire and Monmouthshire.
