Description
Content
Folios 399-400. Letter from Thomas Watkins, Clerk to the Guardians of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, to Poor Law Board, replying to their letter of December enclosing the letter from Mr Price. Stating that the case had been investigated twice before and it was unanimously decided that the pauper referred to, did not possess such a sum of money as claimed and the enclosed statement verifies this. The man occupies a leasehold cottage which is his own but the board of guardians did not deem this sufficient reason to refuse him relief. The board of guardians are informed that there is a dispute between the pauper and Mr Price with respect to the lease of the house in question. Enclosed is a statement from Morgan Thomas denying that Evan Morgan placed a sum of money with him for interest on the sum. Countersigned by William Leigh, vicar of Eglwysilan. Annotated: inform Mr Price that the Poor Law Board have made enquiry and do not consider that the case is one which they can properly interfere with the decision locally vested by the board of guardians. Paper Number: 361/1850. Poor Law Union Number 613. Counties: Glamorganshire and Monmouthshire.
