Letter from E David, Vice Chairman of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, Osborne's Hotel, Adelphi, and later of Fairwater House, Cardiff, to the Poor Law Board, dated 17 Nov 1852 referring to an interview with Sir John Trollope where he was informed of a counter memorial presented to the Board from the town of Cardiff in opposition to the one presented by the Cardiff Board of Guardians in December 1849 and requesting the grounds upon which the separation is opposed by the guardians of Cardiff. Letter from the Poor Law Board to E David, Fairwater House, Cardiff, acknowledging receipt of the letter and forwarding a copy (not included) of the memorial of the ratepayers of the town of Cardiff. Letter from E David, Vice Chairman of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, Fairwater House, Cardiff, to the Poor Law Board giving some statements made in support of the memorial. The statements covering: the numbers of population, vagrants and paupers, the employment opportunities, the accommodation situation against the population, details of sanitary bills charged and the effect the children have on the parishes, the workhouse and suggestions on improvement within the parishes. Letter from Charles Vachell, Cardiff, to the Poor Law Board, submitting a memorial showing that the memoralists have addressed to the Board a petition praying for the division of the said union and the severance of the agricultural and manufacturing parishes of such union from the parishes of St John The Baptist and St Mary in the town of Cardiff. Vachell requests the Board furnish him with any copy of a petition received regarding any division before any order be made. The memorial is signed: T Stacey, Officiating Minister of St John the Baptist and an ex officio guardian; Charles Vachell, Guardian, Richard Tredwen, Guardian, Jason Pride, Guardian, Hugh Bird, Overseer of St John the Baptist, John Evans, William Luke Evans, Churchwarden, St Johns Parish, Cardiff, W Leigh Morgan, Vicar of St Mary, Cardiff and elected Guardian of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, William Williams, Mayor of Cardiff, dated 1 December 1852. Letter from the F W Knight, Secretary of the Poor Law Board to C Vachell, Fairwater House, Cardiff, acknowledging receipt of a letter for consideration. Letter from C Courtenay, Secretary of the Poor Law Board, to E David, Fairwater House, Cardiff, stating for information that the Board have given careful and repeated consideration to the arguments and reasons and written statements brought forward. The Board have come to the conclusion that it is not conducive to the general interests of the union or on public grounds that the suggested division of the union should take place. Letter from C Courtenay, of the Poor Law Board to the Mayor of Cardiff enclosing (not enclosed) a copy of a letter addressed to Mr E David of Fairwater House, Cardiff, in reply to the memorial for the division of the Cardiff Poor Law Union. Letter from C Courtenay of the Poor Law Board to Thomas Watkins, Clerk to the Guardians of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, enclosing (not enclosed) a copy of a letter addressed to Mr E David of Fairwater House, Cardiff, in reply to the memorial for the division of the Cardiff Poor Law Union.
