Folio 30: Nosological return of cases mentioned in the journal.
Folios 31-31a: Tables of medical statistics.
Folios 33-78: Surgeon's general remarks. Joined this ship on 2 February 1859 assisted Mr B Bynoe [Benjamin Bynoe] his predecessor, in a survey of the medicines until 8 February when Mr Bynoe gave up charge. Remarks on the classification and symptoms, treatment and infectious nature of the fever, also his opinion of yellow fever as the same as remittent fever in a severe form, he remarks on the remittent fever of Rio de Janeiro never spreading until infection was imported. He also stated how he acted when the first two cases of the fever [case no 2 and case no 3] appeared on board. He also mentioned that the nurses who attended the fever cases were the men who had fever during the previous seasons. Remarks that the idea of yellow fever propagating by infection may be laughed at by some of his professional brethen, in which infection view of the disease was not scientific enough. He remarks on the history of fever cases - Mr Retallick [case no 11], Mr Percival, case no 15, case no 13, and case no 16. The Surgeon also remarks on the state and condition of the ship. The surgeon mentioned Dr Copeland's opinion on the want of vital power, or organic nervous energy in this fever, also remarks on Quinine. Included in the general remarks are topographical notes.
