Had been involved in an accident returning from a shooting expedition when the steamer he was in was run into and he was thrown overboard, becoming entangled with the paddle wheel for some seconds and unconscious when pulled from the water. He remained some time in his wet clothes. Folio 13: James Mather, aged 19, Ordinary Seaman; disease or hurt, wound of toe (abscess). Put on sick list, 8 February 1876. Discharged, 29 February 1876. Folio 13: Richard Hammond, aged 31, Leading Seaman; disease or hurt, fracture of patella. Put on sick list, 9 February 1876, at Calcutta. Sent to Haslar Hospital, 12 May 1876, and subsequently invalided. Struck his right knee against the hatchway combing when coming up out of the sail room.
