Folio 1: Printed instructions on completing nosological tables, recording where a patient was taken ill, dividing the General Remarks into three sections relating to the ship and crew, her movements and places visited and a consideration of the diseases.
Folios 2-3: case no 1, Thomas Sibley, aged 36, Boatswain Mate; taken ill at New Guinea; sick or hurt, severe attack of sciatica of the left side; put on sick list, 19 February 1873, invalided 23 July 1873.
Folio 3: case no 2, Leonard Wright, aged 30, Marine; taken ill at Sydney; sick or hurt, rheumatism (gonorrhoea); put on sick list, 25 October 1872, discharged 8 March 1873 to duty.
Folio 3: case no 3, John James, aged 24, Leading Seaman; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, wounded left ankle, while on shore at Darnley Island in charge of the cutter, he sustained a wound of the inner left ankle from a piece of coral; put on sick list, 9 February 1873, discharged 14 March 1873 to duty.
Folio 4: case no 4, Edward Pocock, aged 26, Able Seaman; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, febricula; put on sick list, 8 May 1873, discharged 7 June 1873 to duty.
Folio 4: case no 5, Francis Hayter, aged 29, Lieutenant; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, debility and tonsillitis, after returning from a long cruise among the south sea islands, complained of severe attack of tonsillitis, accompanied by great depression, and on April 7 1873 had another attack of cynanche and was again place on the sick list; put on sick list, 9 September 1872, invalided 5 July 1873.
Folios 4-5: case no 6, William Herbert, aged 40, Boatswain's Mate; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, organic disease of heart; put on sick list, 28 June 1873, invalided 22 July 1873.
Folio 5: case no 7, Robert Milligan, aged 39, Shipwright; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, hernia and hydrocele; put on sick list, 29 June 1873, invalided 22 July 1873.

Folios 17-21: Surgeon's general remarks including comments on two schooners (Melanic and Challenge) which employed South Sea Islanders in the pearl shell fishery without a licence [folio 17], received on board a white man and a native of Brothers Island to act as interpreters [folio 17], on the natives, habitation and of cultivation on Cornwallis and Loihi Islands [folios 17-18], examination of the poison used on the arrow by analytical chemist at Wellington Museum and by Dr Hector FRS [folio 18], method adopted in preservation of the bodies by the Natives of Darnley Island [folio 18], also the surgeon's notes on the state of health on board Basilisk [folios 20-21].
