Description

Folios 13-15: John Todwin, aged 39, seaman (cooper by trade), has been three years serving in His Majesty's service; disease or hurt, ulcers. Put on sick list, 11 February 1810 at sea. Discharged 6 August 1810 invalided.

Folios 15-16: George Carr, aged 32, seaman; disease or hurt, fell from the foretop when assisting to reef topsails and broke his fall by some ropes, before he reached the deck. He was taken up in a state of insensibility from which he soon recovered. On examination the neck of the os firmosis was found fractured, the ankle of the same side was much bruised as also the shoulder and arm Put on sick list, 8 February 1810 at sea. Discharged 6 August 1810 invalided.

Folios 16-17: Richard Cole, aged 17, private, marine; disease or hurt, chilblains, right foot greatly swollen, several livid spots on different parts of the feet and ichorous discharge. Put on sick list, 21 February 1810 at sea. Discharged 16 July 1810 at Haslar hospital.

Folios 17-18: John Tate, aged 51, seaman; disease or hurt, enlargement of the right testicle. Put on sick list, 12 March 1810 at sea. Discharged 8 June 1810 to duty.

Folios 18-19: Thomas James, aged 26, seaman; disease or hurt, ophthalmia tarsi, loss of appetite, impaired digestion, diminution of strength and wasting of the whole body, the skin dry, hard and cold to the touch and slight swelling of the lower extremities. Put on sick list, 24 March 1810 at sea. Died 8 June 1810.

Folio 19: John Thompson, aged 43, seaman; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 25 March 1810 at sea. Discharged 24 April 1810 to duty.

Folios 19-20: Joseph Gasica, aged 26, seaman (from the Ocean East India ship at Saint Helena); disease or hurt, cough and frequent spitting of blood with pain in the chest. Put on sick list, 19 April 1810. Died 19 May 1810.

Folios 20-21: Timothy Murphy, aged 18, seaman; disease or hurt, severe purging and griping, nausea and inclination to vomit. Put on sick list, 1 June 1810. Discharged 8 August 1810 to Haslar hospital.

Folios 21-22: William Sporle, aged 28, seaman; disease or hurt, nausea and loss of appetite, frequent loose stools, tenesmus. Put on sick list, 16 June 1810 at sea. Discharged 8 August 1810 to Haslar hospital.

Folio 22: John Gray, aged 31, seaman; disease or hurt, sickness and inclination to vomit, loss of appetite, pain in the abdomen and frequent loose stools. Put on sick list, 17 June 1810 at sea. Discharged 26 July 1810 to duty.

Folio 22: James Griswell, aged 31, seaman; disease or hurt, fell from the main top and was taken up in a state of insensibility, the only external mark of violence was a small wound on the right supercilium, no fracture nor depression could be ascertained. A quantity of blood was discharged from the nose and right ear. Put on sick list, 22 June 1810 at sea. Died 22 June 1810.

Folios 22-23: Peter Ellison, aged 52, seaman; disease or hurt, symptoms of dyspepsia. Put on sick list, 23 June 1810 at sea. Died 2 July 1810.

Folio 23: Thomas Daley, aged 33, master; disease or hurt, attacks of pain in the loins, which prevented motion of the lower extremities the pain shooting along the diaphragm. Put on sick list, 23 June 1810 at sea. Discharged 24 August 1810 to Paignton hospital.

Folios 23-24: Thomas Baker, aged 32, seaman; disease or hurt, fell from the gangway into the waist in a state of inebriety was quite senseless when taken up. On examination the left os fimoris was found fractured and a contusion on the right side about the fifth or sixth rib. Put on sick list, 2 October 1810 at sea. Discharged [date not given].

Folios 24-25: J C Crets, aged 29, seaman (a black man, native of Cuba); disease or hurt, hoarseness, cough, pain in the left side. Put on sick list, 10 October 1810 at sea. Died 24 October 1810.

Folios 25-26: Thomas Churchie, aged 31, seaman; disease or hurt, hepatitis. Put on sick list, 25 October 1810 at sea. Discharged 26 November 1810 to Haslar hospital.
