Description

Mr. Whidbey to the Admiralty. The Duke of Buccleuch, Lord Lieutenant of Midlothian, with Rear Admiral Vashon, came to Leith to ascertain whether it was possible to arm an additional number of boats. It was decided that as there were not enough Sea Fencibles to man more boats that Mr. Whidbey had armed last January, it would be necessary for new Admiralty instructions before anything more could be done..
