Copy letter from Commissioner Proby to the Board. James Hodnet, Cook of the Montreal, informed me that John Spencer, Boatswain of that vessel, took several of his quarterly stores on shore and a new scrubbing brush. His servant was ordered on another occasion to take some iron ringbolts and sell them. The Boatswain was not on his night duty until 31st May last. The Carpenter, Henry Pett, said he sometimes slept without his bedding before 31st May. The Deputy Purser, Pain Stringer, reported the theft of the ringbolts and his servant listed more items. He was ordered to take some old iron to Mr. Wilkinson in Holborn, so he has been suspended from duty and asks for further directions..
