Description
Content
Folios 394-397. Letter to the Poor Law Commission from Edward Senior, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner, referring to instructions in 7381 B relating to the proposed application of the produce of sale of property, belonging to the parish of Hucknall under Hathwaite, [Hucknall under Huthwaite] in the Mansfield Poor Law Union. He encloses a deposition taken on the subject and communication from Messrs Parsons and Benn. The letter from Parsons and Benn confirms that the particulars regarding the purchase money agreed to be given on the sale of the small property was £166, the sale expenses calculated to £31 17s 4d, the account of principle due to Mr Clarke upon his bond is £50 and interest at the rate of £5 is due to Mr Clarke upon the security from 4 October 1835, the principle due on the note owing him is £31 and that interest after the sale is due thereon from 20 May 1836. The enclosed statement is from John Butterworth regarding the habitants of the parish of Hucknall under Hathwaite and states he was a rate payer in the parish of Hucknall in the year 1810 and was one of the trustees concerned with the borrowing of £100 for John Clark for the purpose of purchasing a house for the use of the poor and which interest has been paid by the parish up to the time of leaving in the year 1828. Butterworth remembers the circumstances of the churchwardens and overseers borrowing £31 4s from Richard Johnson in repayment of a debt incurred by the parish. Richard Johnson signed the note and was an overseer of the poor which accounts for him having signed on behalf of the parish officers who authorised him to do so. Paper Number: 8777/B/1839. Poor Law Union Number 337. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
