Folios 153A-154. A summary of the total number of lunatics and idiots chargeable to the parishes in the Newcastle under Lyme Poor Law Union on 1 January 1846, signed by Samuel Harding, Clerk to the Guardians of the Newcastle Under Lyme Poor Law Union. The summary provides information on the number of idiots and lunatics, where they are maintained, their ages, whether they are a danger to themselves, whether they are of dirty habits and the average weekly cost per head of their maintenance and clothing. Annotated: that 'the usual letter' should be sent to the guardians drawing their attention to the four [the return says three] idiots in the workhouse who are dangerous 'at times' or 'to others'. [Folio 153A is a year guard.] Paper Number: 686/B/1846. Poor Law Union Number 421. Counties: Staffordshire.
