- Folio 205. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to William Bolton Girdlestone, Clerk to the Guardians of the Southampton Incorporation, on the subject of education and medical arrangements. It acknowledges receipt of letter of 9 May 1849 stating that the guardians of Southampton wanted to participate in the grant made by Parliament for promoting education and for medical attendance on the poor. It continues saying that before the guardians can participate, the appointment of the schoolmaster, schoolmistress and the medical officers, must be sanctioned by the Board and requests the accompanying forms be completed with the particulars of the applicants [not included]. The Board adds a request for a list of 'all the Workhouse Officers employed by the Guardians with a statement of the accounts of salary paid to each.' Paper Number: 14244/1849. Poor Law Union Number 407. Counties: Hampshire.
