- Folios 255-256. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to Hill & Williams,[Clerks to the Magistrates] Hallatrow, Somerset, about whether responsibility for payment for a pauper lunatic sent to the County asylum lies with the parish of settlement, the parish where he had lived for over ten years or the Common Fund. They agree that there is an element of ambiguity caused by section 5 of 12 & 13 Vict.c103 seeming to contradict the earlier 8 & 9 Victoria c126 and 9 & 10 Victoria c96 but after due consideration, the Board feel that no order of maintenance can now be made upon the parish of settlement. Annotated: sent to Mr Lumley [William Golden Lumley] for approval. N.B. First page crossed through NOT SENT. Paper Number: 25947/1849. Poor Law Union Number 374. Counties: Somerset.
