Description
Content
Folios 251-254. Letter from Hill & Williams,[Clerks to the Magistrates], Hallatrow, Somerset, to the Poor Law Board asking for clarification of the law about which parish is liable for maintenance of a pauper, resident for more than ten years in a parish but having settlement in another, both in the same Union, who has now been sent to the County lunatic asylum. They feel that recent legislation (Section 5 of 12 & 13 Victoria c103) contradicts earlier laws (section 62 of 8 & 9 Vict.c126 and section1 of 9-10 Victoria c96) about whether the Common Fund or the parishes are financially responsible. Annotated: answer to the same effect as in 24095/1849; ask when the pauper was sent to the asylum. [Image number 508 and 509 not used.] Paper Number: 25947/1849. Poor Law Union Number 374.
