Folios 357-358. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission, the Clerk to the Guardians of the Mansfield Poor Law Union, acknowledging his letter dated 10 August 1842, enclosing a copy of William Valantine's certificate given by the London College of Medicine. William Valantine has been appointed Medical Officer of District 4 of the Mansfield Union. The Commissioners enclose a copy of a minute containing what the Commissioners believe to be a correct statement of the bodies authorised to give licences or qualifications to practice in medicine [not included]. Valantine being an existing medical officer of the Mansfield Union and having been in practice as a medical man before 1815, his appointment can be confirmed under article 5 of the medical order. Enclosed is the Certificate of Fellowship given to Valantine. Signed by John Barnett, [J C Crane MD], David D Davis MD, Thomas Hodges, [E H Linnar], Thomas Wakley, George Walker, [Charles Waller], [Henry R Randett], Thomas Evans, W B O'Shanghnessy MD, [W J B Cooke]. Also signed by [Thomas McChristie], Secretary. Paper Number: 10605/B/1842. Poor Law Union Number 337. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
