- Folios 353-354. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission, to William Espin, Auditor for the Mansfield Poor Law Union, referring to his letter dated 28 July 1842, in which he asks the Commissioners opinion upon the subject of exemption from poor rates for the former farm house and premises being now used as a barracks and occupied by soldiers. Properties in the occupation of the crown, occupied for public purposes are not rateable 'Lord Andrews v Lord Somers 2 J R 372 1 Bott 188'. Assuming the parties occupying the building had no personal benefit. Paper Number: 10002/B/1842. Poor Law Union Number 337. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
