- Folios 313-315. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission, to W Essin [William Espin], Auditor, Mansfield, enclosing a copy of a letter they have addressed to Richard Goulding, [Clerk to the Magistrates], Mansfield Poor Law Union. In the enclosed draft letter the Commissioners refer to Goulding's letter dated 24 June 1842 and state the Commissioners had received a letter from [Mr Espin], Auditor. It is not in the powers of the Commissioners to excuse payment of the balance due from the overseers of Sutton in Ashfield in the Mansfield Union. The Commissioners are of the opinion that in accordance with the principle laid down in [Barnes v Luscombe 3 A J C 589] the auditor is not at liberty to vary his decision with respect to the accounts. There is a separate note of annotations largely illegible, stating that it is out of the power of the Commissioners to excuse the payments. Paper Number: 9027/B/1842. Poor Law Union Number 337. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
