Description
Content
Folio 310. Draft letter from W G L [William Golden Lumley Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Commission], to Charles Neale, Mansfield Woodhouse, [Agent to the Duke of Portland]. Acknowledging his letter dated 1 July 1842 respecting the application of the produce of the rate of the Mansfield Woodhouse Parish Property. It is not consistent for the churchwardens or the guardians of the poor in question, to disobey the order of the Commissioners. As to the application for the enlargement of the burial ground this cannot be sanctioned at present but will be reconsidered. In 1837 an application was made to erect a gallery in the church for the free seating of the poor. As to the £100 referred to. This can be repaid to the parish if it can be shown to whom it can be legally paid. Paper Number: 8874/B/1842. Poor Law Union Number 337. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
