- Folios 217-218. Letter from J Loraine Smith, Magistrate of Stony Stratford, to the Poor Law Commission objecting to the proposed election of a relieving officer to the post of high constable. He quotes rule 17 of the Poor Law Commission and asks whether it is absolute, and suggests that magistrates should not go against the rules of the Commission. The matter was urgent because the appointment was to be ratified at an adjournment session on [Sunday] in Aylesbury rather than at the Quarter Sessions. Annotated: See 8929A.
