Letter from J Loraine Smith of Haversham to the Poor Law Commission saying that he had forgotten to remark in his letter earlier in the morning that the duties of a high constable take up much of his time. In an emergency he should always be at the command of the bench of magistrates and make frequent journeys attending to the business of his district. Paper Number: 8929/A/1839.
