- Folios 200-201. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to [William Shouler], Acting Overseer of the Poor in Wavendon Parish stating that the unavoidable costs of defending an appeal against the rate are chargeable against that rate, and that where necessary, professional assistance should be obtained. In addition, the Commission state that there is some doubt on the proportion of the assessment as between tithes and land, and that the matter will be resolved by a case under consideration by the Court of Law. The Commission is not sure whether this was the difficulty in the present case, but if so, it recommends the procedure detailed in the enclosed memorandum [not included], which would avoid litigation and expense until the decision of the court is obtained.
