Folios 381-383. Letter from William Gregory, Guardian of the Basford Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, enclosing the documentation regarding the emigration to New Zealand of Francis Grooby and his family and requesting further instructions. Attached are: A List and description of the persons desirous of emigrating from Heanor parish in the Basford Poor Law Union, i.e. Francis Grooby, married, [Framework Knitter]. George Grooby, 15, [Framework Knitter]. Henry Grooby, 10, [Framework Knitter]. Thomas Grooby, 8, [Framework Knitter]. Sarah Grooby, married. Harret Grooby, 29, [Lacemaker]. Mary Grooby, 27, [Lacemaker]. Ann Grooby, 19, [Lacemaker]. Selina Grooby, 12, [Lacemaker]. Sussana Grooby, 4. Emigration Form B, relating respectively to a 'Resolution entered in Vestry Book' for the parish of Heanor in the Basford Poor law Union made on Thursday 26 May 1842, signed by Edmund Tew, officiating minister; Samuel Flint, Churchwarden; Thomas Eley and William Turner, Overseers, and witnessed by William Gregory. This shows that the sum of £50 was to be borrowed on the security of the rates in order to finance the emigration of the Grooby family. This is to be repaid in five annual instalments plus interest at not more than 5%. Emigration Form C relating to a 'Certificate of Minister, Churchwardens and Overseers of the Forms of the Act having been complied with' for the parish of Heanor in the Basford Poor Law Union. Signed by Edmund Tew, Minister; Samuel Flint, Churchwarden; Thomas Eley and William Turner, Overseers, [and not witnessed]. This also certifies that the annual rates of Heanor parish are £3,036. Paper Number: 9090/B/1842. Poor Law Union Number 334. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
