- Folio 370. Letter from William Ashton, Clerk pro tem to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, regarding the map and book of reference for Basford supplied by Mr Wood, Surveyor. This had been found not to be according to the instructions given by the Commission the previous February. When they pointed out the defects to Mr Wood, he had utterly refused to make any changes, and 'stating that the first loss would be the least' had taken back the two items, refusing to return them, and stormed out. The guardians are now greatly embarrassed by not having the map and book, and are asking the Commission to advise them as soon as possible what to do. Annotated: [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Commission] directs on 12 July to write to the guardians for the contract between them and Mr Wood. Paper Number: 8807/B/1842. Poor Law Union Number 334. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
