Folio 210A. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission, to Thomas Watkins, Clerk to the Guardians of the Cardiff Poor Law Union, acknowledging their letter of the 20 August 1844, stating that was not deemed necessary at the formation of the Cardiff Poor Law Union to require a bond from the master of the workhouse as no money belonging to the union would have to pass through his hands. The Commission point out that although he does not handle any money he is responsible for provisions and stores belonging to the union. The Commission desire to refer the guardians to the general order of the Poor Law Commission 'Duties of Officers' dated 21 April 1842 and issued since the formation of the Cardiff Poor Law Union which requires him to give security for the position. They request that the guardians will upon him to provide such security in a bond with two sufficient sureties in conformity with the provisions of the order; and to inform the Poor Law Commission when he has complied therewith.
