Description

Folio 1: Blank.

Folio 2: James Archer, aged 53, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, debility and injury of shoulder and rheumatism. Invalided, 1 January 1867, at Hong Kong. In the previous year he had been treated for diarrhoea, fever and an injury to the shoulder from falling on the deck.

Folios 2 – 3: Mr Frederick Sale, aged 35, Carpenter; disease or hurt, febris intermittens and climatic debility. Invalided, 1 January 1867, at Hong Kong. He had a fever like ague in 1865 at Shanghai and his sight had been deteriorating since, the previous September he had gonorrhoea, testitis and another attack of fever.

Folio 3: John Smith, aged 26, Carpenter’s Crew; disease or hurt, variola. Put on sick list, 7 January 1867, at Hong Kong. Sent to hospital, 8 January 1867, returned to the ship, 5 March 1867.

Folio 3: Frederick Mitchell, aged 19, Ordinary Seaman; disease or hurt, secondary syphilis. Put on sick list, 10 January 1867, Sent to hospital at Hong Kong, 21 January 1867, returned to the ship, 30 May 1867. Had contracted syphilis at Amoy the year before.

Folio 3: Charles Oliver, aged 19, Ward Room Servant; disease or hurt, variola. Put on sick list, 13 January 1867, at Hong Kong. Sent to the hospital, 13 January 1867, returned to the ship, 2 February 1867.

Folios 3 – 4: Arthur Warren, aged 23, Armourer’s Crew; disease or hurt, rheumatism. Put on sick list, [15] January 1867. Sent to HMS Melville, 1 February 1867. Invalided, 26 February 1867.

Folio 4: Thomas Weaver, aged 22, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, rheumatism. Put on sick list, 30 January 1867. Sent to HMS Melville, 1 February 1867. Invalided, 26 February 1867.

Folio 4: Charles Ford, aged 19, Warrant Officer’s Cook; disease or hurt, bubo sympathetic. Put on sick list, 12 February 1867, at Hong Kong. Sent to HM Hospital Ship Melville, 9 March 1867. Returned to ship, 30 May 1867.

Folio 4: George le Bailey, aged 18, 1st Class Boy; disease or hurt, ulcer. Put on sick list, 3 March 1867, at Hong Kong. Sent to HM Hospital Ship Melville, 9 March 1867. Returned to ship, 9 May 1867.

Folios 4 – 5: James Robinson, aged 27, Stoker; disease or hurt, diarrhoea and fever. Put on sick list, 5 May 1867, at sea. Sent to HMS Melville, 11 May 1867. Invalided, 3 June 1867. He had been on the list twice in 1866, 1 to 4 April and 5 to 29 July for diarrhoea and colic, and from 5 to 8 April 1867 for exhaustion after stoking.

Folio 5: Richard Davies, aged 16, 1st Class Boy; disease or hurt, primary syphilis. Put on sick list, 8 May 1867, at Hong Kong. Sent to hospital at Hong Kong, 11 May 1867, returned to the ship, 21 May 1867.

Folio 5: Thomas Merriott, aged 17, 1st Class Boy; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 7 May 1867, at sea. Sent to HM Hospital Ship Melville, 11 May 1867. Returned to ship, 31 May 1867.

Folio 5: Samuel Hamer, aged 28, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 1 May 1867, at Manila. Sent to HM Hospital Ship Melville, 17 May 1867. Invalided, 3 June1867.

Folio 5: Mr William Hobbs, aged 30, Gunner; disease or hurt, febris remittens. Put on sick list, 5 May 1867, at sea. Sent to HM Hospital Ship Melville, 17 May 1867. Returned to ship, 28 May 1867.

Folio 5: Thomas Curlay, aged 23, Private Marine; disease or hurt, gonorrhoea etc. Put on sick list, 13 May 1867. Sent to HM Hospital Ship Melville, 17 May 1867. Returned to ship, 31 May 1867 for transfer to sick quarters at Yokohama.

Folio 5: John Williams, aged 37, Carpenter’s Crew; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 14 May 1867, at Aberdeen Dock. Sent to HM Hospital Ship Melville, 17 May 1867. Returned to ship, 31 May 1867.

Folio 6: Edwin Clout, aged 35, Cooper; disease or hurt, rheumatism. Put on sick list, 17 May 1867, at Aberdeen Dock. Sent to hospital at Hong Kong, 17 May 1867. Invalided, 3 June 1867.

Folio 6: George Smith, aged 26, Private Marine; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 17 May 1867. Sent to hospital at Hong Kong, 17 May 1867. Returned convalescent, 31 May 1867.

Folio 6: Henry Sercomb, aged 35, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 17 May 1867, at Aberdeen Dock. Sent to hospital at Hong Kong, 17 May 1867. Invalided, 25 June 1867.

Folio 6: Reuben Eccles, aged 35, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 1 May 1867, at Manila. Sent to hospital at Hong Kong, 22 May 1867. Invalided, 25 June 1867.

Folio 6: William Crane, aged 18, Ordinary Seaman; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 19 May 1867, at Aberdeen Dock. Sent to hospital at Hong Kong, 22 May 1867. Invalided, 3 June 1867.

Folio 6: Joseph Randle, aged 21, Ordinary Seaman; disease or hurt, ulcers and diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 19 May 1867, at Aberdeen Dock. Sent to hospital at Hong Kong, 22 May 1867. Returned to the ship, 6 July 1867.

Folio 6: Ephraim Smith, aged 40, Gunner Royal Marine Artillery; disease or hurt, fever and debility. Put on sick list, 20 May 1867. Sent to hospital at Hong Kong, 22 May 1867. Invalided, 3 June 1867. He had received treatment from 29 April to 8 May 1867 for quotidian ague and diarrhoea.

Folios 6 – 7: Richard De Courcy, aged 21, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, phthisis. Put on sick list, 21 May 1867. Sent to HM Hospital Ship Melville, 22 May 1867. Invalided, 3 June 1867. He had complained of cough without any pain on 30 April and was weighed as 143 lbs, on 19 May he was weighed again and found to be 135 lbs.

Folio 7: James Sowerby, aged 25, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, diarrhoea etc. Put on sick list, 21 May 1867. Sent to hospital at Hong Kong, 22 May 1867. Invalided, 3 June 1867. Joined from the Princess Charlotte on 24 February 1866 and sent to hospital for gonorrhoea on 26 February 1866. Treated on board for diarrhoea from 14 to 26 June 1866, for contusion from 4 to 9 October 1866, sent to hospital for syphilis in October 1866, on the list for testitis from 31 January 1867 to 9 February 1867, and from 3 to 8 April 1867.

Folio 7: John Pascoe, aged 23, Carpenter’s Crew; disease or hurt, diarrhoea dysenteric. Put on sick list, 27 May 1867, at Hong Kong. Sent to hospital at Hong Kong, 28 May 1867. Invalided, 3 June 1867 and died in hospital, 7 June 1867.

Folio 7: Alfred Bevan, aged 20, Ordinary Seaman; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 28 May 1867. Sent to hospital at Hong Kong, 28 May 1867. Returned, 6 July 1867.

Folio 7: Alfred Beck, aged 20, Ordinary Seaman; disease or hurt, febris remittens. Put on sick list, 26 May 1867, at Hong Kong. Sent to the hospital, 28 May 1867.
