- Folios 307-308. Letter from R M Hodge [Richard Michell Hodge], Clerk to the Guardians of the Truro Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board, sending copy of a resolution relating to medical arrangements. Samuel Jewel is the only medical officer residing in the district for which he is appointed [Tregony] except for Henry Jewel, his son, who has the care of an adjoining district [Veryan]. Both districts together would exceed the area limited by order. Samuel Jewel is one of the most experienced medical officers in the union and has filled his duties to the perfect satisfaction of the board. Annotated: the explanation of Mr Prynn's complaint (see 8474) that H Jewel does not reside in the district is contained in 16445. H Jewel is an existing medical officer and last year held the Tregony district. It will be best to sanction these arrangements, which appear satisfactorily explained. Paper Number: 17550/1848.
