Letter from William Ashton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Basford Poor Law Union, to Edwin Chadwick, [Secretary to the Poor Law Commission], reporting on the meeting of the Guardians at the Basford workhouse. Henry Smith, Chairman; Mr Farrand, Vice-Chairman. Guardians present from Wollaton, Woodborough, Hucknall, Newstead, Shipley, Arnold, Greasley and Calverton. Resolutions: Proposed by Farrand and seconded by Mr Chouler regarding any advertisements for bread, milk, meat and groceries until contracts terminated. The overseer of Hucknall to summon John Burton regarding why he isn't maintaining his pauper son who is in the workhouse. Relieving officer's books examined. Out relief sum established. Pauper's cases heard. Goods ordered as for Order check book. Annotated: Mr Nicholls, [George Nicholls, Commissioner]. Annotated: Acknowledge. Nil. JL [John George Shaw Lefevre, Commissioner]. Folio 137 Guard. Paper Number: 3381/C/1836. Poor Law Union Number 334. Counties: Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
