Description
Content
Folio 162. Letter from Charles Bond, Clerk to the Guardians of the Axminster Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission. Regarding Mr J Jolliffe, Medical Officer. The extracts from Jolliffe's letter of 26 March 1846 were submitted to the board of guardians of the Axminster Poor Law Union yesterday at their meeting. It was unanimously decided that an enquiry by the Poor Law Commission would be desirable into the circumstances surrounding the death of the wife of George Clark of the parish of Chardstock. Letter also states that new board of guardians is similar to the old Board with only four different members. The next meeting of the board of guardians is on 1 May 1846 if convenient for an Assistant Poor Law Commissioner to attend. If so, Bond will secure the attendance of all necessary parties. Postscript to letter states that Jolliffe is still a Medical Officer to the Axminster Poor Law Union, he is the appointed Medical Officer for the parish of Membury. Annotation - Promise enquiry by Assistant Poor Law Commissioner. 29 April 1846. Instruct Mr Graves [John Thomas Graves] to enquiry. Paper Number: 4633/A/1846. Poor Law Union Number 76. Counties: Devon and Dorset.
