Folios 145-146. Letter from Charles Bond, Clerk to the Guardians of the Axminster Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission. Question arisen on division of Guardians in the appointment of Medical Officer. Letter requests guidance on the Chairman's vote where division of the Guardians occurs. Please inform whether the Chairman is able to vote upon any division of the board of guardians or can he give his vote only. When there is equality of votes or where the vote is a majority of one can the Chairman give his vote to other side to make it equal and then cast the deciding vote? Request an early reply. Annotation - Explain Chairman has no second or casting vote. Chairman may give vote as a Guardian on any question whether the number of votes (excluding his vote) be equal or not. 24 March 1846. Paper Number: 3379/A/1846. Poor Law Union Number 76. Counties: Devon and Dorset.
