Folios 566-568. Letter from R H Hodgson, Clerk to the Justices (Bench of Magistrates) of the Petty Sessional Division of Keighley, to the Poor Law Board enclosing a copy of the usual form of order issued by the justices to the overseers of the Keighley Poor Law Union for the extra services provided by the constables. He also encloses a 'Pattern Leaf' from a book kept by the constables listing the details of the services for which payment is claimed. This book is scrutinised by the justices before any payment is demanded. Form to the overseers of the poor of the township of Keighley signed by John Brigg and John Greenwood Sugden, Justices of the Peace for the West Riding of Yorkshire Petty Sessions of the Keighley Division. The form relates to the fees and allowances payable to the clerk, justices and constables, and orders the overseers to pay to Joseph Heaton, Constable, a sum which the justices deem appropriate according to the Act, for the appointment and payment of constables. The leaf from the constable's book concerns Joseph Smith who is accused of vagrancy by James Kershaw and brought before the magistrates, Costs for the various duties of the constables in apprehending and keeping the accused in custody are directed to be charged to the overseers of the poor in the Keighley Union.
