- Folios 227-228. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to Thomas Lings [Thomas Ling], Rumburgh churchwarden, concerning a widow named Pinkney [Sophia Pinkney]. The Poor Law Act precludes the Commission from making decisions on individual cases. A copy of the letter sent to the Blything Guardians was enclosed. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to Harry White, Clerk to the Guardians of the Blything Poor Law Union, regarding private grant to Pinkney. The Union is requested to inform the Poor Law Commission of any other instances of the law being evaded in this way. Paper Number: 6986/B/1839. See also Paper Number: 6519/B/1839.
