Folio 191. Letter from Thomas N Firmin, Clerk to the Guardians of the Southampton Incorporation, to the Poor Law Board, referring to letter no 31979/1856., dated 15 August 1856. He informs the Poor Law Board that the guardians approve the recommendations of [P Mackay] Medical Officer, for sick paupers on the no 2 diet. This advice states that at each meal adult males should have 4 ounces of cooked bacon instead of fresh meat, while adult females should have 3 ounces. Annotation: sanction, 20 August 1856. Paper Number: 33125/1856. Poor Law Union Number 407. Counties: Hampshire.
