Description

Folio 20: case no 221, Edward Barnes, aged 49, Bandsman; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, diarrhoea; put on sick list 27 February 1855, invalided 10 March 1855. Folio 20: case no 241, Henry Chapell, aged 32, Caulker; taken ill at Callao; sick or hurt, hemiplegia; put on sick list 8 March 1855, discharged 24 March 1855 to duty. Folio 20: case no 243, John King, aged 18, Boy 1st Class; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, bubo; put on sick list 11 March 1855, discharged 16 September 1855 to duty.

Folio 21: case no 244, William Cowley, aged 25, Drummer Royal Marine; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, bubo; put on sick list 11 March 1855, discharged 9 May 1855 to duty. Folio 21: case no 245, john Sheerin, aged 54, Bandsman; taken ill at Valparaiso; sick or hurt, debilitas; put on sick list 10 March 1855, invalided 10 March 1855.

Folios 21-22: case no 252, Henry Goslin, aged 25, Ordinary Seaman; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, rheumatismus; put on sick list 15 March 1855, sent 16 April 1855 to HMS Rattlesnake for a passage to Sick Quarters at Valparaiso.

Folios 22-23: case no 267, Charles Ford, aged 26, Private Marine; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, synochus, was seized whilst at drill with faintness which obliged him to fall out of the rank, stated that he was not fell well since the 9 March [1855] when he was present at the funeral of the late French Admiral at Callao; put on sick list 30 March 1855, died 9 April 1855 at about 1.40 pm.

Folio 23: case no 269, Arthur Hamilton, aged 22, Ordinary Seaman; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, ophthalmia; put on sick list 30 March 1855, discharged 25 April 1855 to duty. Folio 23: case no 280, Joseph Hill, aged 22, Able Seaman; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, syphilis; put on sick list 7 April 1855, sent 16 April 1855 to HMS Rattlesnake for a passage to Sick Quarters at Valparaiso.

Folio 24: case no 294, Mr Albert Nugent, aged 14, Naval Cadet; taken ill at Honolulu; sick or hurt, luxatio ulnae sinistre et fractura humori et ulna sinistre; put on sick list 14 April 1855, discharged 10 June 1855 to duty.

Folios 24-25: case no 324, Francis Green, aged 42, Able Seaman; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, diarrhoea; put on sick list 6 May 1855, sent 17 September 1855 to HMS Monarch for passage to Sick Quarters at Valparaiso.

Folios 25-27: case no 345, Robert Sansom, aged 36, Captain After Guard; taken ill at sea; sick or hurt, catarrhus, in 1850 at Jamaica when he belonging to HMS Indefatigable was seized with fever and was of long duration convalescened, since of that period he was more or less never have regain his strength, his hearing became affected and his muscular power weakened, when on board this ship on November 1853 after an attempt to raised a weight presented himself with pain inside followed after some days by great weakness, loss of flesh and dyspnoea; put on sick list 23 May 1855, died 21 July 1855 at 11.12 pm.

Folios 30-31: case no 363, John Knight, aged 34, Leading Seaman; taken ill at Awatska Bay; sick or hurt, rheumatismus; put on sick list 16 June 1855, invalided 24 Augugt 1855.

Folio 33: no on ship’s book 323, James Oliver, aged 22, Ordinary Seaman; pension granted on 25 July 1855; nature of hurts, integuments of right leg jammed between gun carriage and ship’s side, on 9 January 1855. Folio 33: no on ship’s book 193, William Bellow, aged 21, Ordinary Seaman; pension not granted; nature of hurts, fell from aloft whilst furling spanker and struck right nates against angle of skylight on quarter deck, on 20 January 1855. Folio 33: no on ship’s book 60, Mr Albert L Nugent, aged 14, Naval Cadet; pension not granted; nature of hurts, fell from his horse on shore at Honolulu by which fall he sustained dislocation backwards and upwards of both bones of left forearm, on 14 April 1855.
