Folios 2-10: Copy of daily sick book for 15 June 1841 to 30 June 1842,

Folios 10-16: Quarterly meteorological diary from 15 June to 30 September 1841.

Folios 17-20: case no. 1, William Crabbe, aged 27, Captain of Forecastle belonged to HMS Modeste; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, dysenteria; put on sick list 15 June 1841, invalided and discharged 15 July 1841 for passage to England.

Folios 20-24: case no. 2, James Potter, aged 33, Captain of Fore Top belonged to HMS Modeste; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, dysenteria; put on sick list 15 June 1841, invalided and discharged 10 July 1841 for passage to England.

Folios 25-26: case no. 3, Michael McCarthy, aged 39, Able Seaman; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, gunshot wounde of the brain received at the attacked on Canton of 21 May, caused by a matchlock ball entered the cranium a little to the right of the mesial line of the osfrontis; put on sick list 15 June 1841, invalided 5 July 1841.

Folios 27-28: case no. 4, David kink, aged 36, Marine; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, febris intermittent of the quotidian type; put on sick list 19 June 1841, discharged 6 July 1841 cured, in this case the effected of blood letting in the hot stage not only immediately removed all the violent symptoms, but also prevented any return of the paroxysms.

Folios 29-31: case no. 5, Mr. J. H. Richards, aged 22, Mate belonged to HMS Starling; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, febris intermittent of the quotidian type; put on sick list 25 June 1841, invalided 5 July 1841.

Folios 31-33: case no. 6, Mr. George Balfour, aged 19, Midshipman belonged to HMS Alligator; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, dysenteria; put on sick list 25 June 1841, invalided 5 July 1841.

Folios 33-34: case no. 7, Charles Dawkins, aged 35, Lieutenant belonged to HMS Blenheim; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, bronchitis; put on sick list 3 July 1841, invalided 5 July 1841, discharged 15 July 1841 for passage to England.

Folios 35-37: case no. 8, Henry Goddon, aged 34, Able Seaman belonged to HMS Herald; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, synochus, the Surgeon of the Herald stated that the patient was put on sick list for quotidian fever, but with paroxysms so severe and protracted that there were little time between them; put on sick list 25 June 1841, admitted 11 July 1841 to Hospital, died 6 July 1841.

Folios 37-39: case no. 9, William Collins, aged 23, Able Seaman belonged to HMS Hebe; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, dysenteria; put on sick list 12 July 1841, discharged 6 August 1841 cured.

Folios 39-41: case no. 10, Mr. Thomas Fraser, aged 33, Surgeon belonged to HMS Herald; taken ill 12 months previously while serving in HMS Buffalo on the Coast of New Zealand; sick or hurt, bronchitis & sarcoma of testes; put on sick list 12 July 1841, invalided 29 July 1841.

Folios 42-44: case no. 11, Charles Cole, aged 25, Private Marine belonged to HMS Herald; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, dysenteria [HMS Herald’s case]; put on sick list 13 July 1841, died 20 July 1841.

Folios 44-47: case no. 12, John Allen, aged 33, Captain of the Mast belonged to HMS Herald; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, dysenteria [HMS Herald’s case]; put on sick list 12 July 1841, died 24 July 1841.

Folios 47-49: case no. 13, James Sloane, aged 28, Able Seaman belonged to HMS Hebe; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, dysenteria [HMS Herald's case]; put on sick list 27 July 1841, discharged 6 August 1841 to duty.

Folios 49-51: case no. 14, William Thomson, aged 29, Able Seaman belonged to HMS Sulphus; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, dysenteria; put on sick list 28 July 1841, died 30 July 1841.

Folios 51-53: case no. 15, John Voisey, aged 16, Boy belonged to HMS Sulphur; taken ill [in Canton River]; sick or hurt, dysenteria; put on sick list 28 July 1841, discharged 28 August 1841 cured.

Folios 54-56: case no. 16, William White, aged 55, Ship's Cook belonged to HMS Hyacinth; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, dysenteria, was taken ill in the beginning of July and was invalided on board [the Hyacinth]; put on sick list 2 September 1841, died 23 September 1841.

Folios 56-58: case no. 17, John Maid, aged 33, Able Seaman belonged to HMS Alligator; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, dysenteria; put on sick list 27 December 1841, died 27 December 1841.

Folios 58-66: case no. 18, John Astle, aged 27, Lieutenant belonged to HMS Alligator; taken ill at Hong Kong; sick or hurt, dysenteria; put on sick list 10 September 1841, died 26 October 1841.

Folio 66: case no. 19, Robert Welsh, aged 23, Marine belonged to HMS Herald; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, dysenteria; put on sick list 11 July 1841, died 4 August 1841.

Folio 67: case no. 20, Thomas Shotten, aged 22, Seaman belonged to HMS Herald; taken ill in Canton River; sick or hurt, dysenteria; put on sick list 11 July 1841, died 30 July 1841.
