Description
Content
Folios 128-129. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to William Lassey [William Passey], Coventry Street, Kidderminster, acknowledging receipt of his letter of 30 January 1837 regarding the case of pauper, Benjamin Hughes, and his treatment by the Kidderminster Poor Law Union. The Commission has made enquiries and wishes to inform Lassey [Passey] that the circumstances 'differ considerably from those stated' in his letter and that they have no doubt that Hughes' needs will receive prompt attention from the guardians. However, they thank him for his letter and say that, although the Poor Law Amendment Act section 15 prevents the Commission from interfering to order relief in individual cases, they feel they have a duty to call certain cases to the attention of the guardians, 'when called upon to do so'. Paper Number: 780/C/1837. Poor Law Union Number 530. Counties: Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.
