Description

Folio 9: Mr R H Bunbury, aged 14, midshipman; case number 10; disease or hurt, amputated arm. Had a compound comminuted fracture of both bones of the right fore arm and extensive laceration of the soft parts requiring amputation below the elbow. During the operation it was discovered that the fracture extended so high up as barely to leave room for the saw between it and the joint. A portion og the lacerated integument formed a part of the flaps; Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. 24 November 1827, quite well.

Folios 9-10: Thomas King, aged 19, ordinary seaman; case number 11; disease or hurt, amputated arm. His right arm was shot away close to the elbow joint and hanging by muscular fibre. Amputation was performed above the joint; Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. 24 November 1827, quite well.

Folio 10: William Dibbs, aged 28, foretop man; case number 12; disease or hurt, severe contusions. Extensive contusions of the abdominal and lumbar regions, and a small one on the right fore arm; Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. Discharged 4 November 1827 to Malta hospital.

Folio 10: George Latimer, aged 42, signal man; case number 13; disease or hurt, lacerated wounds. A large and deeply lacerated wound of the right thigh and a small one on the leg, besides several on the left glutei muscles and thigh; Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. Discharged 4 November 1827 to Malta hospital.

Folio 10: George Carlow, aged 21, signal man; case number 14; disease or hurt, a severe lacerated wound and several small ones in the right thigh, also a musket ball wound in the left groin. The parts near the right eye were contused. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. Discharged 4 November 1827 to Malta hospital.

Folio 10: Frederick Imhoff, aged 17, boy; case number 15; disease or hurt, a large superficial laceration of the right thigh close to the glutei muscles. Part of the integuments were hanging down and being likely to prove troublesome were removed. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. Discharged 4 November 1827 to Malta hospital.

Folio 11: John Elliotson, aged 22, maintop man; case number 16; disease or hurt, amputated finger. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. 1 November 1827, the finger is daily healing.

Folio 11: William Eaton, aged 34, gunner's crew; case number 17; disease or hurt, an extensive lacerated wound of the left foot producing great pain, swelling and inflammation. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. Discharged 4 November 1827 to hospital.

Folio 11: Cecil Lockley, aged 22, marine; case number 18; disease or hurt, a deep extensive grape shot wound in the left thigh, followed by severe pain, inflammation and discharge. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. Discharged 4 November 1827 to hospital.

Folio 11: John Harvey, aged 37, gunner's crew; case number 19; disease or hurt, a deep lacerated wound of the right arm and a superficial one on the fore arm; the left was lacerated besides small wounds on his face and right side. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. 20 November 1827 this man was sent to hospital and discharged for drunkenness.

Folio 11: Thomas Mullins, aged 46, forecastle man; case number 20; disease or hurt, a severe wound in the right thigh producing a compound comminuted fracture of the os femoris. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. Discharged 4 November 1827 to the hospital.

Folio 12: John Clark, aged 30, marine; case number 21; disease or hurt, a round shot carried away his right arm requiring amputation close to the elbow joint. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. Discharged 4 November 1827 to the hospital.

Folio 12: Robert Darnel, aged 26, captain of the maintop; case number 22; disease or hurt, a contusion of the loins with abrasion of the skin, by being thrown out of the mizzen top, when the mizzen mast fell by the board. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. 6 November 1827, quite well.

Folio 12: William Brown, aged 24, maintop man; case number 23; disease or hurt, received a severe and deep wound of the left side of his face lacerating the facial artery and other smaller vessels. An alarming haemorrhage followed and it was with much difficulty that the vessels could be secured. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. 1 November 1827, the ligatures are come away the edges of the wound have united, and it heals daily by the use of adhesive plaister.

Folio 12: Thomas Pickering, aged 23, poulterer; case number 24; disease or hurt, a severe contusion of the right arm producing laceration of the integuments and a simple fracture of the os. humeri. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. Discharged 4 November 1827 to the hospital.

Folio 12: Edward Johnson, aged 25, foretop man; case number 25; disease or hurt, a deep wound in the upper arm from a musket ball, causing pain, swelling and inflammation. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. Discharged 4 November 1827 to the hospital.

Folio 13: Michael Hookery, aged 21, seaman; case number 26; disease or hurt, this man was attacked in the Hind tender and received lacerated wounds in his face, left arm and left thigh. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. 7 November 1827, quite well.

Folio 13: Alexander Merryman, aged 20, seaman attached to the Hind tender; case number 27; disease or hurt, an extensive lacerated wound in the palm and on the back of his left hand injuring the metacarpal bone of the middle finger. Also a simple fracture of the left clavicle. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. Discharged 4 November 1827 to the hospital.

Folio 13: William Jones (3rd), aged 29, seaman belonging to the Hind tender; case number 28; disease or hurt, laceration of the scalp with slight fracture of the os frontis, and a contusion of the left shoulder. Headache, vertigo and occasional insensibility to surrounding objects succeeded the injury. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. 2 November 1827, complains of headache occasionally.

Folio 13: William Corte, aged 36, seaman belonging to the Hind tender; case number 29; disease or hurt, a contused lacerated wound of the left leg, causing pain, inflammation, swelling and rechymosis. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. Discharged 4 November 1827 to the hospital.

Folio 13: William Chandler, aged 25, seaman belonging to the Hind tender; case number 30; disease or hurt, a severe contused wound of the left hip, and fracture of the crista Ilii pressing upon the intestines. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. Discharged 4 November 1827 to the hospital.

Folio 14: John Rylett, aged 24, maintop man; case number 31; disease or hurt, extensive contusions of the neck and shoulders without loss of substance, causing acute pain in the muscles, increased on the least exertion. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. 4 November 1827, discolouration and stiffness going off.

Folio 14: James Collins, aged 30, forecastle man; case number 32; disease or hurt, a small wound of the left arm tearing through the radial artery followed by considerable haemorrhage. Put on sick list, 20 October 1827 at Navarino. 5 November 1827, the wound is now healed.
