Description

Folio 63: Thomas Seville, aged 26, Marine; disease or hurt, synochus. Put on sick list, 17 February 1855. Sent to hospital, 23 February 1855. A supernumerary Marine from the Vengeance who had been employed as an orderly attending the sick being brought from the Crimea on board the Andes steamer. Folio 63: Frederick Beatly, aged 26, Carpenter; disease or hurt, synochus. Put on sick list, 17 February 1855. Sent to hospital, 23 February 1855. He had been delirious during the night. Folio 63: James Burton, aged 25, Marine; disease or hurt, synochus. Put on sick list, 17 February 1855. Sent to hospital, 23 February 1855. A Supernumerary Marine, sent on board from the Andes steamer where he had been acting as a nurse.

Folio 64: George Reynolds, aged 23, Marine; disease or hurt, synochus. Put on sick list, 21 February 1855. Sent to hospital, 1 March 1855. One of the Marine nurses from the Andes steamer. Had diarrhoea when he came on board, then suffered rheumatism, rigors and pyrexia. Folio 64: Thomas Seaton, aged 28, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 30 December [1854]. Sent to hospital at Malta, 15 March [1855]. Folio 64: Henry King, aged 30, Marine; disease or hurt, abscess. Put on sick list, 23 January 1855. Sent to hospital at Malta, 15 March 1855. Folio 64: Henry Biggs, aged 30, Ordinary Seaman; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 24 January 1855. Sent to hospital at Malta, 15 March 1855. Sent to hospital at Malta, 15 March 1855. Came on board sick from the Crimea. Folio 64: James Lavercome, aged 26, Marine; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 3 February 1855. Sent to hospital at Malta, 15 March 1855. Sent on board from the Crimea where he had been on the sick list for two months. He suffered a low fever as well as diarrhoea.

Folio 65: William Richards, aged 35, Marine; disease or hurt, synochus. Put on sick list, 25 February 1855. Sent to hospital, 1 March 1855. Folio 65: William Chawler, aged 21, Ordinary Seaman; disease or hurt, vulnus. Put on sick list, 17 October 1854. Invalided, 13 March 1855. Wounded at his quarters by a shell splinter on the outer side of his right foot.

Folio 66: Henry McGee, aged 24, Ordinary Seaman; disease or hurt, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 6 March 1855. Sent to hospital at Therapia, 16 April 1855, and later invalided. Folio 66: Thomas Bowden, aged 26, Captain of the Main Top; disease or hurt, dyspepsia. Put on sick list, 26 March 1855. Sent to hospital at Therapia, 12 May 1855, and subsequently invalided. Folio 66: David Rose, aged 28, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, dyspepsia. Put on sick list, 7 April 1855. Sent to hospital at Therapia, 12 May 1855. Folio 66: John Boles, aged 18, Boy; disease or hurt, synochus. Put on sick list, 13 April 1855. Sent to hospital at Therapia, 16 April 1855. He had deserted form the ship and lived in ‘the lowest purlieu’ of Constantinople until he was admitted to the civil hospital with typhus. Folio 66: Richard Buchell, aged 33, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, cholera. Put on sick list, 23 April 1855. Died, 23 April 1855. He belonged to HMS Queen and remained on shore when that ship went up into the Black Sea. He was found lying in the street in the middle of the night and was brought on board, he died a few hours afterwards.

Folio 67: Jeremiah McCarthy, aged 24, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, vertigo. Put on sick list, 19 May 1855. Sent to hospital at Therapia, 26 April 1855. Complained that he had suffered headache every day for many months past. Folio 67: Thomas Seaton, aged 28, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, dyspepsia. Put on sick list, 19 May 1855. Sent to hospital at Therapia, 26 May 1855. Folio 67: John Curran, aged 32, Marine; disease or hurt, contusio. Put on sick list, 30 May 1855. Sent to hospital at Therapia, 28 June 1855. Fell down one of the ladders from the main deck to the lower deck, injuring the left side of his body. The surgeon was absent from the ship during the month of June and there is no record of his treatment but it seems he was sent to the hospital on 26 June. Folio 67: John Keegan, aged 25, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, rheumatism. Put on sick list, 1 June 1855. Sent to the hospital [at Therapia], 20 June 1855.

Folio 68: Edward Welch, aged 51, Ship’s Cook; disease or hurt, rheumatism. Put on sick list, 1 June 1855. Sent to hospital at Therapia, 2 June 1855, and subsequently invalided from there. Folio 68: Charles Dowdeswell, aged 24, Ordinary Seaman; disease or hurt, rheumatism. Put on sick list, 20 September 1855. Sent to hospital, 24 September 1855. Came on board from HMS Vulcan and had been on the sick list of HMS London since the beginning of the month. Folio 68: William Sinclair, aged 28, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, synochus. Put on sick list, 20 September 1855. Sent to hospital at Therapia, 24 September 1855, and subsequently invalided. Received on board from HMS Queen. Folio 68: John Worn, aged 38, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, vulnus. Put on sick list, 20 September 1855. Sent to hospital at Therapia, 20 September 1855, and subsequently invalided. Came on board on 19 September with the rest of the Naval Brigade. He had a large sloughing wound covering most of the calf of his left leg, received at the taking of Sevastopol. Folio 68: Christopher Roberts, aged 27, Captain of the Main Top; disease or hurt, pneumonia. Put on sick list, 5 October 1855. Sent to hospital at Therapia, 14 October 1855. Folio 68: Edward Green, aged 25, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, 1 November 1855. Discharged, 11 November 1855. Folio 68: Francis Osborne, aged 22, Ordinary Seaman; disease or hurt, syphilis. Put on sick list, 14 December 1855. Sent to hospital, 28 December 1855. Folio 68: William Simmonds, aged 22, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, haemoptysis. Put on sick list, 16 November 1855. Sent to hospital, 28 December 1855. He had suffered cough for several weeks before entering the sick list.

Received a severe contusion of the leg from a coal box falling on it. Folio 69: William Ewer, aged 29, Able Seaman; disease or hurt, orchitis. Put on sick list, 28 December 1855. Sent to hospital, 28 December 1855. Folio 69: Richard Marks, aged 27, Marine; disease or hurt, vulnus. Put on sick list, 15 November 1855. Discharged, 27 December 1855.
