Folios 236-237. Letter from Richard Chapman, Truro, writing for the Clerk to the Guardians of the Truro Poor Law Union, to Colonel Wade [Colonel Thomas F Wade], Assistant Poor Law Commissioner], sending, at his request, a copy of a resolution, passed by the board of guardians on 20 January 1841. He has found that £53 4s 3d was spent during the quarter ending Lady Day [25 March 1841] on clothing supplied to paupers in the Truro workhouse and charged to the establishment. He will find out which parishes should bear a proportion of this amount and send Wade the account. Copy of a resolution, passed by the guardians of Truro Union, that clothes for paupers in the workhouse should be paid for by the establishment and not by the parish the pauper comes from. Annotated: for the information of the Commission, Wade has told the guardians that the Commission cannot consent to the arrangement, which is contrary to the Act of Parliament. He thinks the Commission should give their views on the subject. Paper Number: 11098/A/1841. Poor Law Union Number 57. Counties: Cornwall.
