Folios 407-408. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to George Spencer, Clerk to the Guardians of the Keighley Poor Law Union, referring to the certificate signed by the clerk and medical officers of the union stating the number of paupers who can be accommodated in the poorhouses of Keighley and Bingley. The Commissioners request the clerk and medical officers to answer the following questions:- 1. Are more rooms used as bedrooms than were shown to Sir John Walsham, [Assistant Poor Law Commissioner], on his visit? 2. How many paupers were registered as inmates on 8 June 1842 and what was the greatest number recorded on a single night in the previous quarter? 3. Is the accommodation listed in the certificate in question allocated indiscriminately for all ages and sexes and condition of inmates? Paper Number: 8648/B/1842. Poor Law Union Number 571. Counties: Yorkshire West Riding.
