- Folio 379. Draft letter from [Edwin Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission] to H E Payne [Henry Edwards Paine], Clerk to Guardians of the Rye Poor Law Union, relating to using the proceeds of the sale of property in the parish of Brede and Udimore to liquidate loans, stating that before an order can be issued evidence is required of the money being lent for purposes beneficial to the parish. To this end, with regard to the claims made by William Coleman and H Curteis and others the Commission require the notes of hand to inspect and extracts from parish books as evidence showing the purpose for which the money was borrowed and how it was expended. Paper Number: 10709/C/1838 and 11328/C/1838. Poor Law Union Number 484. Counties: Sussex.
