Draft letter from [Edwin Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission] to H E Payne [Henry Edwards Paine], Clerk to Guardians of the Rye Poor Law Union, relating to the payment of borrowed monies out of the proceeds of the sale of property in the parish of Icklesham, The Commission require extracts from the parish books or a declaration showing the purposes for which the sums were lent and how they were applied and they need to inspect the notes of hand upon the claims.
