Letter from J H Wilson, Surgeon, to the churchwardens of the parish of Iden in the Rye Poor Law Union, reporting that the sewers and open drains in the parish between the Bell Inn and the butcher's shop and at the east end of the old workhouse require remedial work as they are a health hazard to those living nearby and a source of epidemic disease. Annotated: Mr Chadwick [Edwin Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission]. What can be done? [John George Shaw Lefevre, Poor Law Commissioner], 21 November 1838. Letter sent to the Poor Law Commission by E C T [Edward Carleton Tufnell, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner], 20 November 1838, as it relates to a subject discussed in the Commission's report.
