- Folio 349. Draft letter from [Edwin Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission] to H E Payne [Henry Edwards Paine], Clerk to Guardians of the Rye Poor Law Union, stating that the Exchequer Loan Board will be prepared to accept any sum on account of the loans made to the union and that, on payment, the annual instalments will be reduced in proportion to the amount paid. The Commission require the amount of the net proceeds in each parish to enable an order to be issued authorising the use of sale of property proceeds to repay the Exchequer Loan Board an instalment of more than a twentieth of the loan. Annotated: Mr Parker [Henry Walter Parker, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Commission], 13 December 1838. Paper Number: 10490/C/1838. Poor Law Union Number 484. Counties: Sussex.
