- Folio 346. Draft letter from [Edwin Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission] to [J F Barry MP], Her Majesty's Treasury Commission, forwarding, at the request of the Guardians of the Rye Poor Law Union, a memorial proposing an extension of time for repayment of loan of £1400 from the exchequer loan Commission and a reduction of the rate of interest on the loan. The Commission states that the loan is in common with other monies which the guardians of the union are authorised to borrow for the purposes of purchasing and altering workhouses in the union which exceed one third of the average annual expenditure of the parishes in the union and the Commission suggests the memorial is complied with. Paper Number: 10386/C/1838. Poor Law Union Number 484. Counties: Sussex.
