Folios 338-340. Letter from Henry Edwards Paine, Clerk to Guardians of the Rye Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, enclosing various extracts from the vestry book for the parish of Rye, being resolutions to borrow money: 22 December 1825. To discharge the debt incurred by enlarging and repairing the workhouse, building cottages and purchasing materials, £1000 to be borrowed by way of annuity or annuities upon the life or lives of any person or persons not being under the age of 50 years and to be repaid from the rates of the parish. 18 April 1826. The loan of £1000 to be raised under the resolution 22 December 1825 to be limited for the time being to £600 only. 1 June 1826. Not exceeding £200 to be borrowed from William Stanley by way of an annuity on his life and to be repaid from the rates of the parish. 5 October 1826. Bonds entered into for the grant of an annuity of £15 payable to Stanley in consideration of £150 and for the grant of an annuity of £25 payable to Henry Ames in consideration of £250, the annuities repaid from the rates and to be made for the relief of the poor of the town and parish. One or more bonds executed not exceeding £200 in the whole to those willing to advance a loan on the security of the rates, the annuity not to exceed ten per cent per annum on the capital advanced. 15 March 1827. Further to resolution 5 October 1826, execution of a bond for payment of £20 annuity to James Dawes of Tenterden in consideration of 3200. Paper Number: 10352/C/1838. Poor Law Union Number 484.
