Folios 13-14: Surgeon’s general remarks. All convict ships should be ordered into the Cape of Good Hope where they can buy fresh beef and vegetables, and the surgeon refered to cayen[n]e pepper or any of the capsicums would be a good preventative of scurvy, he mentioned that the Lascars go long voyages without or nearly without animal food salt or fresh; they use a great deal of capsicum and garlick.
