Folios 326-332. [Continued from MH 12/5969/] Deposition of Beator Mooney. Charges relating to Gill, week ending 11 November 1851. Cases: 275 John Mooney. 276 Thomas Mooney. 277 Ann Mooney. She is the wife of John Mooney and they have four children, one just three weeks old, none of whom have been vaccinated during the last two years. About six months ago a 'tall, dark complexioned man' called asking for children to vaccinate and she told him they had been done, one by Gill and the other two by the Ladies' Charity. He noted the names of the three children. He told her that when someone called to enquire, she was to say that they had been done by him, but she said that she would tell whoever called the same as she had just told him. He never called again and no one else called. Deposition of Mary Gallagher. Charges relating to Gill, Week ending 23 October 1851. Cases: 188 Andrew Gallagher. 184 Lentia Gallagher [Letitia Gallagher]. 185 Ellen Gallagher. 186 Jane Gallagher. She is the wife of Andrew Gallagher and they have one child, Letitia. She had not been vaccinated, having had 'the natural pock'. Eight months ago a 'tall... dark complexioned man' called, accompanied by a boy, aged about twelve years. He asked the age of her child and noted the names of a neighbour's children, Jane Gallagher and Ellen Gallagher, but no relation. He then left without performing any vaccinations. Ollis later made enquiries about vaccinations and she also took him to the other children's mother. Deposition of Sarah Richardson. Charges relating to Gill, week ending 7 October 1851. Cases: 47 William Richardson. 72 William Hutchinson. 73 Mary Elizabeth Hutchinson. 74 Catherine Hutchinson. 75 John Jones. She is the wife of William Richardson and they have three children. The two eldest were vaccinated outside Liverpool. In October a 'tall man' called, with a boy aged about thirteen, and offered to vaccinate her youngest child, William Richardson. She declined as her husband was not at home. He said that she must have it done as he was the 'Head Government Doctor'. Before he left he appeared to vaccinate the boy who was with him and asked her if she would recognise him. He noted the names of her children. A few days later a 'little man' called, saying he was Gill's vaccinator and the proper person to do it. He then vaccinated the child. No one, apart from Ollis, has called since and no one named Jones has lived in the house since she has been there. Deposition of Mary Mullin. Charges relating to Gill, week ending 11 November 1851. Cases: 278 John Robson. 279 Mary Mullin. 280 John Mullin. 327 Ann Miller. She is the wife of James Mullin and they have five children, all of whom have been vaccinated. Mary, aged ten months, was vaccinated in November 1851 by Dr Ellison from the Ladies' Charity. Several people called asking to vaccinate the child, including a 'tall man, dark complexioned, white handkerchief'. He noted the baby's name and those of the other children and told her if anyone called she was to say that he had vaccinated two of her children, Mary Mullin and Ann Mullin. She said 'what good will that do me?' and he told her it would do her no harm, but do him some good. No one subsequently called and no one named Dobson has lived in the court since she has been there. Deposition of Catherine Robinson. Charges relating to Gill, week ending 11 November 1851. Cases: 351 Joseph Boydd. 352 Mary Boydd. 353 John Boydd. of 4 Court, Finch Street. 354 Mary O'Neill. 355 Samuel Mellor. 356 Thomas Jones. 357 Mary Jones. All of 6 Court, Finch Street. She is the wife of William Robinson and during the 11 years they have lived at 4 Court, Finch Street no one named Boyd [Boydd] has lived there. There is no 6 Court in Finch Street. Deposition of Hannah Davies. Charges relating to Gill, weeks ending 23 October 1851 and 11 November 1851. Cases: 211 Thomas Davies. 316 E Harriet Wilkie. 317 Thomas Davies. 318 William Stanley. She is the wife of Thomas Davies and they have three children living, who were all vaccinated as infants. A son, Thomas Davies, died in October 1851, but was never vaccinated. In October 1851 A 'tall thin gentleman, with crepe on his hat' called and asked to vaccinate Thomas. She said that she would go to her own doctor, Dr McGregor, but when she did so she was told the baby was too delicate. Mrs Stanley, living at the same address, had a child of her own and a 'nurse child' and the gentleman pressed both mothers to have their children vaccinated, saying they would be fined if it was not done. He called a number of times and also asked the names of all the children. On one occasion he was accompanied by Cornett, whom she knew as he once kept a school nearby. On one visit the vaccinator said that he 'belonged to the Government'. In the meantime Mrs Stanley had her children vaccinated and if her son had been strong enough she would have had him vaccinated from one of the these children. [Continued at MH 12/5969/]
