Folios 322-325. [Continued from MH 12/5969/] Deposition of Ellen Wilson. Charges relating to Gill, weeks ending 7 October 1851 and 26 July 1851. Cases: 83 John Jones. 84 Mary Hoy. 85 James Hoy. 130 John Cooper. 323 John Wilson. 324 James Cooper. 325 Mary Cooper. 133 Nora Cooper. 134 David Jones. All of 11 Circus Street. She is the wife of Thomas Wilson and they formerly lived in Circus Street. They have six children, but only one, Thomas Wilson, has recently been vaccinated, by the Ladies Charity in February 1851. Mr and Mrs Cooper lived in the same house and had two children, Margaret Cooper and Nora Cooper, and a 'nurse child', Daniel Jones. Nora and Daniel were both vaccinated in about April or May 1851, but she does not know by whom. Nora died in October 1851. She thinks that Margaret was vaccinated as a baby. They did not have sons called John Cooper or James Cooper and no person named Mary Hoy or Jane Hoy lived in the house. In March 1851 a 'tall gentleman' called asking for children to vaccinate, she told him there were none and her own had been done. Deposition of Sarah Williams. Charges relating to Gill, weeks ending 7 October 1851 and 23 October 1851. Cases: 106 Elizabeth Ann Williams. 107 Sarah Williams. 108 John Williams. 194 Ann Rody. 195 John Rody. 196 John Bower. All of 8, Richmond Terrace. She is the wife of John Williams and they have one child, Elizabeth Ann, 8 months old. When she was 5 weeks old a 'tall gentleman' she believes is Graham called asking for children to vaccinate. At the third attempt the child was successfully vaccinated. Another person also called looking for children to vaccinate, but no one else apart from Ollis. Graham asked her the name of her mother, herself, her husband and her child, but she could not see what he wrote down. Her mother's name is Elizabeth Rody, but she knows no one called John Rody or Ann Rody or anyone else called Rody. No one named Bower or John Bower has lived in her house during the last 15 months. When the vaccinator called he brought a boy with him, aged eleven or twelve years, whom he appeared to vaccinate on the wrist, which she thought strange. No one named Ibbotson has lived next door at 9 Richmond Terrace during the last fifteen months. This evidence was corroborated by Elizabeth Rody, the mother. Deposition of Ellen Curren. Charges relating to Gill, weeks ending 7 October, 11 October and 9 August 1851. Cases: 79 Catherine Cloney. 80 Margaret Driscoll [Margaret Duskell]. 81 Dennis Driscoll [Dennis Duskell]. 82 Cornelius Driscoll [Cornelius Driskell]. 320 L Dennis Driscoll [L Dennis Driskell]. 321 Cornelius Driscoll [Cornleius Driskell]. 322 Patrick Driscoll [Patrick Driskell]. 183 William Patrick Driskell. All of 17 Richmond Terrace. She is a widow and servant to Patrick Driscoll. He has three living children and one, William Patrick Driscoll, who died in August 1851, aged four months. A fortnight before he died a 'tall gentleman' called asking for children to vaccinate. He vaccinated William, but none of the other children have been vaccinated in the three years she has been with the family. A week after the vaccination William was taken ill and his mother took him to Wales. During this time a doctor called, but did not call again until after the child's death. He said that someone would call checking the number of children vaccinated and she was to say that three had been done. He noted the names of all Driscoll's children. The same occasion he brought a boy, aged ten or twelve, with him, saying he was not allowed to vaccinate him in the district where he lived. He then appeared to vaccinate him, but she cannot be sure if he was really cut. When someone called enquiring about the number of children vaccinated she said three, as instructed, but did not understand the implications of what she had said. Ollis called making enquiries and the vaccinator returned the same evening and appeared very angry. When he vaccinated the boy he had brought with him, Catherine Stokes, another tenant was present and he asked put her name down instead of the boy's. (Catherine Cloney is entered no.79 in the bill.)
