Folios 306-313. [Continued from MH 12/5969/] Deposition of Mary Gibson. Charges relating to Steele, weeks ending 8 November 1851, 15 November 1851. Cases: 86 Robert Gibson. 98 Thomas Gibson. 99 John Gibson. She is the wife of Adam Gibson and they have three children. Her youngest, Robert Gibson, 16 months, was vaccinated in early October 1851. A man called on several occasions enquiring for children to be vaccinated. She was reluctant at first as the child was unwell, but then agreed and it took well. At the same time he vaccinated her neighbour, Mrs Hughes' child, but that did not take. He was a 'middle sized man, rather lusty, light hair'. He than asked her the names of her other children and noted them down, saying that he had been vaccinating some children 'out of the district which I shall not get paid for'. He also noted the names of Mrs Jackson, another neighbour's, children. He later called to collect the 'matter' and told her that if anyone made enquiries she was to say that he had vaccinated all the children. A man with spectacles called and she told him this. She did not understand, but now it has been explained to her she is sorry. Deposition of Sarah Hesketh. Charges relating to Steele, week ending 8 November 1851. Cases: 81 John Hesketh. 82 Mary Hesketh. She is the wife of William Hesketh. Her sister in law, Jane Hesketh, gave birth to a child, John Hesketh, in a cellar in Portland Street, where she had lived for just a couple of weeks in late 1851. Both mother and child died about eight weeks before she made this statement [about 24 March 1852]. The child was vaccinated in Portland Street. She only had one child and the father's name was Thomas Hesketh. Deposition of Jane Jackson. Charges relating to Steele, week ending 15 November 1851. Cases: 100 John Jackson. 101 Mary Jackson. 102 Bella Jackson. She is the wife of John Jackson and they have seven children living, three from her previous marriage. None of the children have been vaccinated during the last year. Mrs Gibson, a neighbour, had her child vaccinated just before Christmas 1851, by a 'middle sized man, fair complexion, round fattish face'. She does not know how he obtained the names of her children as she did not speak to him. Another neighbour, Mrs Hughes, also had Her child vaccinated at the same time, but it did not take. Parish of Liverpool. Papers relating to charges of fraud made by the Select Vestry against Mr Steele, Medical Officer, in cases of vaccination. Deposition of Rose Ann Kehoe. Charges relating to Hyams, week ending 4 October 1851. Cases: 26 James Doran. 27 Jane Kehoe. 28 George Kehoe. She is the wife of Patrick Kehoe and they have two children, James Kehoe, two years, and John Kehoe, 1 month. Seven or eight months ago a man called, identified as Graham by a neighbour, asking for children to vaccinate. Her eldest, James, had been vaccinated when three months old, but it had not taken, so Graham revaccinated him. He also Vaccinated James Doran, a child she was rearing; both took effect. He told her that Mr Lawrence, a poor visitor, would call to check. When Graham returned two or three weeks later, Lawrence had still not called and she has never seen him. She never had a child called George or any other children requiring vaccination in the last year. Deposition of Mary Carroll, Charges relating to Hyams, week ending 4 October 1851. Cases: 15 Mary Carroll. 18 John Carroll. 21 Eliza Carroll. She is the wife of John Carroll and they have five living children. In September or October 1851 John Carroll, Elizabeth Carroll and Mary Carroll were vaccinated when she was out. A neighbour told her that the man who had 'cut them' was called Graham. They had all been vaccinated in their infancy. Deposition of Abby Grady. Charges relating to Hyams, weeks ending 22 November 1851, 29 November 1851. Cases: William Wilson, 5 Court Argyle Street. William Wilson, 5 Court Argyle Street. She is the wife of John Grady and they have lived in 5 Court Argyle Street for six or seven years. During that time no one named Wilson has lived there. During the last 12 months the only children vaccinated in the court were Mrs Cooper's and Mrs Miller's children. Deposition of Elizabeth McArdle. Charges relating to Hyams, week ending 4 October 1851. Cases: 10 Charles McArdle. 11 Catherine McArdle. 12 Eliza McArdle. 13 Ann McArdle. 14 Sarah McArdle. 17 Pat Berry. She is the wife of Charles McArdle and they have six living children. In early October 1851 Graham called asking for children to be vaccinated.
